In March 2021, Victoria led the nation in changing the state’s Residential Tenancies Act to make renting fairer and safer. However, elements of this rights regime are still confusing and difficult to navigate for some renters and the workers who support them. Increasing demand for rental housing and a global cost-of-living crisis has also tested the limits of current renter protections, requiring additional measures.
This recording features Kat Theophanous, newly appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Renters, who is joined in conversation with Juanita Pope, VCOSS CEO to discuss Victoria’s current rental fairness.
