Young workers are invited to an online session to learn about what being a casual worker means, including the benefits and pitfalls of casual employment. Young workers will also be armed with information how to become part-time or full-time, if that’s the best situation for them.

For many young workers, casual employment is the default type of employment. Because it is the most insecure type of employment, the Young Workers Centre has heard countless stories of exploitation, wage theft and poor treatment from young people.

We want young people to be empowered to decide whether casual employment is the best situation for their needs, and to educate them and provide resources on how to go about accessing recently introduced laws which allow them to convert to part-time or full-time employment.

Part-time and full-time employment can offer valuable protections for young workers – whether that be paid leave to attend to study, or a sense of mutual commitment and legal protection from unfair treatment like unfair dismissal or anti-bullying.

Young workers will be able to ask questions about their own experience, and we’ll share common tips and tricks for casual employees.
